Our store is a life-long dream business, set up by a small team with a background in lifestyle and interiors magazines in Ireland, design bloggers and product sourcers from all over Europe. We are forever looking for extraordinary design objects and lustful homewares (thus, the name of our store) and are purveyors of big and niche brands from Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Ireland and Norway. We also retail handmade, ethnic and fairtrade crafts from Portugal, Turkey, Morocco and India, alongside vintage pieces we fall in love with on holidays and sourcing trips in Ireland and abroad.
The store is a collection of pretty and practical things that people might find beauty and joy in and combines the sublime simplicity of the Scandinavian aesthetics, the vibrancy of ethnic textiles and the memorable charm of antiques. Our design philosophy is somewhere between chic Scandinavian minimalism and European modern rustic. The products we choose are based on a few simple criteria: they are beautiful and unusual in terms of texture, material and design; they are practical and versatile - we believe in the power of transforming and repurposing virtually everything in the home, and will share ideas on how to do it with each of our products on our website and blog.
So what are we about? We love the monochrome geometry of the Nordic aesthetic, but also crave colour and cosiness, and, in sourcing for our shop, we have moved beyond the large ubiquitous Scandinavian design stalwarts you now find in most contemporary design-savvy homes to smaller, niche brands that bring something different to our beloved minimalist design base. We also believe in the power and honesty of artisanal design and we try to find affordable faitrade suppliers wherever we can. We have also tried to stay on top of the big 2015 trends coming out of world interiors events, such as Maison & Objet, Decorex, Milan Expo, etc. and populated the store with copper, brass and other metallics, beautifully patterned textiles, natural wood, handmade ceramics.
For us, decorating is not just buying and displaying products. Our mantra is "don't just decorate, curate". The objects and collections in this store are evocative of life experiences, moods and life loves - for example, "Black Celebration" is the name of a favourite music albums by Depeche Mode and also conveys a love for dark interiors and the strong moodiness and naughtiness of the colour black. "A Touch of Gold" comes out of a love of old-style European cinematography and is evocative of midcentury European luxe interiors. Other collections, such as "Silver Linings", are a reminder that a little sparkle in your home can be so uplifting.
